Accessible. By design.

At IOI, one of our core principles is “Impactful Games by Impactful People”. Sometimes though, barriers exist in games which prevent people from being able to experience them.
This is why we’ve put together these pages on Accessibility. So that players can learn more about our journey, and find out about Accessibility options and features in our titles.

We believe that knowledge should be shared in our industry. Whether its through Knowledge Bars hosted in our Barcelona studio, or Sound meetups in Copenhagen, we want to share our knowledge and experience with other people and studios. Through industry talks and webinars hosted on social media channels, we want to make sure that our Accessibility journey and experiences are shared.

We have regular studio-wide meetings on Accessibility, where we discuss cases, examples from the industry, and bring gamers with impairments to speak about their experience with playing games and benefits of accessibility in designing games.

Our pillars for accessibility

Nothing About Us, Without Us.
We want to make sure that, as much as possible, we’re communicating with the community and learning from them. Whether that’s inviting consultants to talk with us, or bringing people in for play sessions to get hands on experience and feedback. We don’t know what it’s like to live or play games with disabilities, so we want to make sure that we communicate and hear from those that do.
Design First, Options Second.
Games are truly Accessible, when all players can play the same game without having to scroll through lists of options to try and make the game Accessible for them. Instead, we should be focusing on making features and experiences Accessible during the design phase (as well as including options).
Everyone is Different
An Accessibility Design/Option that works for one gamer, might not work for another. This is why it’s important for us to try and get these different views from different gamers.
The Work is Never Done
No matter how much we do during development, there will always be ways in which we can improve the experience. Accessibility doesn’t stop at game launch, and it’s never too late for us to improve our games based on feedback from the community.

Through these guiding principles, are aim is that we’re able to make our titles more Accessible for all, so that everyone can experience and enjoy the games we all love.

We can’t wait to see where this road takes us!
